Purging removes obsolete file versions which reduces the database size and also removes the obsolete file versions from the file store. This will have a positive effect of improving performance and freeing up hard disk space, however, it will remove the file history. So although it can be done as part of regular maintenance be careful not to purge too many versions.
File versions can’t be purged if they are the latest version, referenced by another file or referenced by a label.
Open the Autodesk Data Management Server Console. Start > All Programs > Autodesk > Autodesk Data Management > Autodesk Data Management Server Console 2010.
Log in as an administrator.
Expand the browser and select the Vault to purge. Right click and select Purge... or Actions > Purge.
Specify the criteria for the versions to purge and click OK.
The purge will take place in the background, allowing you to close the Autodesk Data Management Server Console.
