Microsoft Updates Causing Errors or Problems in Autodesk Software

Back to Categories    Print this Help Centre

In This Tip

Every so often, Windows Updates cause problems in Autodesk software. This is due to the fact that so many components of Autodesk software relies on a variety of Microsoft components. If these components are updated by Windows update, and it effects the required component in a way that either the Autodesk or Microsoft component can no longer interpret, errors will occur. Here are just a couple documented on the Autodesk Support website:

While there's no way to know in advance if a Windows update will effect any Autodesk software from our end until the sulprit hotfix itself is released by Microsoft, thankfully it does not usually take Autodesk long to come up with their own hotfix, to repair whatever component it is that the Microsoft update has broken.

How To

If you find yourself effected suddenly by a weird issue in your Autodesk software - check if you've installed any recent Windows Updates.
Until Autodesk release a hotfix for whatever issue has occurred, to roll back the changes:
- turn off Windows update on your system.
From: Start > Control Panel >In Vista: Windows Update > Change Settings.
In XP: Automatic Updates.

- uninstall any recent Windows updates.
From: Start > Control Panel >In Vista: Programs and Features > View installed updates.
In XP: Add/Remove Programs - tick "Show Updates" at the top of the dialog.

Once any hotfixes are released to resolve the issue, you can turn Windows update back on.
